Twins Niamh and Olivia Scorer represented St Mark’s Karate Club, Millfield, in the recent NKA competition. Niamh achieved third place in individual kata. St Nicholas Wednesday Brownies recently had an informative talk from Amy, a member of Cats Protection. They found out about the work of the charity and the best ways to look after a cat. The Brownies particularly enjoyed meeting Noodles the cat and some dressed as cats themselves. The pack donated food to the animals currently being looked after in the area.

Deptford and Millfield Community Association will hold a jumble sale on Saturday at 2pm. Jumble is urgently required which you can hand in to the community association on Monday from 1pm-4pm, Wednesday from 10am-4pm, Thursdays at 11am and Saturday from 9am-noon.

A Vintage and Craft Fayre will be held at Sunderland Minster on Saturday from 10am-3pm. There will be stalls selling local crafts, hand made gifts, vintage and craft retro goods, hand-crafted greetings cards and gift bags, cupcakes. Refreshments will also be available. Entry is 50p for adults, children free.

Sunderland Branch of Save The Children is holding a fundraising family fun day on Saturday, April 16, from noon-3pm, in the Sunderland Bangladeshi Centre, Tatham Street. There will be stalls and activities suitable for all ages, including tombola, raffles, homebake, books, bric-a-brac, children’s games and stalls, including toys, Tiny Tweenies Group, refreshments and food stalls, crafts and other stalls. Entrance 50p, children free.

Arthritis Care Sunderland will meet on Wednesday, April 6 from 6-8pm in The Education Centre, Sunderland Royal Hospital. Meetings are usually held on the first Wednesday of the month.

St Gabriel’s Church coffee morning will be held on Saturday, April 16, from 10.30-n00n, and is in aid of St Gabriel’s Men’s Institute. Cost is £1 for coffee and a scone. There will also be a cake stall and raffle.

Ewesley Road WI will meet on Wednesday, April 6, at 2.15pm in The Enid Dagg Room of Ewesley Road Church. The speaker will be from The Street Pastors. Stall is toiletries, and competition, Guesstimate.

Broadway Guild will meet on the second Tuesday of the month at 7pm in Grindon Community Centre, Cortina Avenue, High Barnes.

At St Gabriel’s Church on Saturday, April 23, from 7-9pm, ‘Compass Acapella’ will be in concert. Tickets are £4 and must be bought in advance from the church office on 5142397.

Biscop’s At The Minster is the new name of the cafe in Sunderland Minster. Open from 10am-3pm, Monday to Saturday. You can call in for a cuppa and a bite to eat.

Sunderland Floral Art Club is holding a Chairman’s Charity Fundraising Day in support of The Great North Air Ambulance on Tuesday, April 19, in the Royalty Theatre. Tickets are £10 and numbers are limited because of space and catering. Booking must be made by April 12 by ringing Pam on 0191 5227832. At 10.30am coffee will be served. There will be a talk with slides on the work of The Great North Air Ambulance, a light lunch amd a workshop with Katie-Jane Pridmore. The workshop will be based on three ways to use a supermarket bunch of mixed flowers.

Kids Discovery Club, in Falmouth Road, Ford Estate, is one over the holidays from 12.45pm-3pm. Week one March 29, 30 and 31; week two April 5 and 6 with a trip to Beamish on April 7, £5 per person. Booking are required. Activities will include Easter egg hunt, Easter crafts, gnome painting, Easter egg competition, planting seeds and bulbs nature craft. Refreshments will be available.
