Outlook, a relaxed midweek service, takes place in St Gabriel’s Church on Monday, July 25, from 2pm to 3pm. This service is usually held on the second and fourth Mondays of the month. Starting with a short, informal service, followed by refreshments and a chat.

Sunderland Ladies’ Probus Club will meet in St John’s Church, Ashbrooke, on Thursday, July 28, when Geogg Hughes will be guest speaker. His talk is entitled ‘Cragside-Upstais Downstairs. Coffee will be served at 100am and the meeting begins at 10.30am.

Go along and support one of the biggest organ recitals series in the North East at Sunderland Minster. On Saturday. Emma Gibbins, from Newport Cathedral, will be playing. The event starts at 1.30pm, lasts 50 minutes, with free entry, and big screen view.

From Thursday, August 25, to Sunday, August 28, Taming of the Shrew will be enacted round Barnes Park, at 6.30pm. Meet The Theatre Space Team at The Coach House Cafe entrance. Dress for the weather and follow the show around the park, taking in the hilarious Shakespeare classic while admiring this beautiful park.

Sunderland Floral Art Club will meet in The Studio of The Royalty Theatre today at 2pm. The demonstrator will be Ann Simpson whose demonstration is entitle Two’s Company. Ann comes from Earwick, near York. Visitors to the meeting,pay £4. All are welcome.

A new event for the summer season at St Nicholas Church is afternoon teas. The next one will be on Saturday, August 6, from 3.30pm to 5pm. It will be held in The Haver Hall of the church and the cost will be £3. Available will be sandwiches, scones, cakes w and tea or coffee.

On Friday at 7.30pm, there will be a Patronal Festival, Mass Procession and party at St Mary Magdalene’’s Church.

St Luke’s Church is holding a coffee morning on Saturday, August 6, from 10am in the JB Hall of the Neighbourhood Centre. There will be tea, coffee, scone, and raffle as well as a bric-a-brac stall. All are welcome.

Sunderland Minster Vintage and Craft Fayre takes place on Saturday, August 6, from 10am to 3pm. This popular event is held on the first Saturday of each month. With a wide variety of stalls, including jewellery, handbags, gifts, greetings cards and gift bags, and much more. Entrance is 50p for adults, children free. Refreshments are available.

Open Arms Coffee Morning will take place at St Nicholas Church on Wednesday, August 3, from 10.30am to noon in the Aidan Room at the church. This event is a support network of carers, who can get together for an informal chat, time out and a chance to spend time with other people, who share and understand the experiences of being a carer.

The 2016 Active Sunderland West Area Sports Festival will be held on Wednesday, August 3, in Barnes Park. Activities on the day are subject to change but the following clubs, groups and activity providers are already confirmed as being in attendance: Imagine Table Tennis Club, Foundation of Light (Niall’s Mile Walks). AAASports-Toukan Martial Arts, Sunderland Cricket Club, Inflatable Golf Driving Bay, Everyone Active. Activities are free and there is no booking required, just turn up on the day.

Sunderland Cardiac Support Group hold exercise classes for you and your partner/carer in Bede Tower Burdon Road, near The Civic Centre on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10-11a.m and 11.15-12.15p.m. Classes are done in a relaxed environment and at your own pace.

Sunderland Arthritis Care met recently to hear a talk by Allyson Close, crew manager, and Community Firefighter Simon Vickery, from the local comunity fire station, give a talk on fire safety. They spoke about the important role fire alarms play in saving lives and the home fire prevention advice they able to offer. Anyone interested in having a home fire safety check, ring 0191 444 1177. There will no meeting of the group next month. The next one will be on September 7.
