The ladies from Sunderland Townswomen's Guild enjoyed the start of Christmas activities at Ewesley Road Church hall, with line dancing, faith tea, then bingo. Everyone seemed to enjoy the afternoon.

The speaker at the joint meeting of the Bishopwearmouth and Sunderland Men’s Probus Clubs in Ashbrooke Sports Pavilion on Tuesday, December 13, at 10.30am will be Geraldene Straker, from the Beamish Open Air Museum. She will give a progress report on the museum’s latest project, the 1950s. Visitors are welcome, no charge.

The Snowman and Snowdog Party Tree will be at Sunderland Minster on Sunday, December 4, from 2pm to 4pm. Have fun, make decorations, and help to dress the Minster Christmas tree.

Visit Santa in his grotto at Burn Park Methodist Church when members will be holding their Christmas coffee morning on Saturday, December 3, from 10am to noon. There will be various stalls to browse as well as tea and coffee, bacon and sausage sandwiches, mince pies.

Barbara Priestman Academy will be holding its Christmas fair on Saturday, starting at 11am. Santa will be there, along with a variety of stalls selling cakes, toys, gifts, cards, books, bric-a-brac, tombola, raffles and an auction, which includes a football signed by the Sunderland team.

A Cribs and Bibles Exhibition will be held at Burn Park Methodist Church from Saturday until Christmas. This will include individual groups producing a nativity scene in a shoe box or match box to go alongside the usual exhibition which is a fascinating sight to behold.

A Christmas fair will be held at The Barnes on Sunday from 11.30am to 3.30pm. Spaces are £10 and you must supply your own table. Ring 07855015507 for more details.

On Saturday, December 3, from noon to 4pm a Christmas fair will be held at St Mark’s Community Association, Millfield. Ring 07855015507 for details.

A Christmas market will be held at City Life Church, Hylton Road, on Friday, December 2, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. Refreshments will be available as well as a home baking stall, Christmas stall, and sweets. This event is to raise funds for St Benedict’s Hospice.

Place of Welcome is held every Thursday from 10am to noon at St Mark’s Church, Millfield. This Place of Welcome offers, friendship and hospitality, regular opening at the same time each week, free refreshments, local knowledge. Sunderland Minster Christmas fair will take place on Saturday from, 10.30am to 1pm. Entry for adults is free. Lots going on including grand draw, Santa, children’s games, tombola, bottle stall, gifts, toys, homemade cakes, Christmas stall,bric-a-brac and much more.

St Mary Magdalene’s Parish Centre, Wilson Street, is the venue for a Christmas fair on Saturday, December 3 at 11am. Tea and bingo will follow this event.

Ewesley Road WI will meet on Wednesday, December 7, at 2.15pm in The Enid Dagg Room of the church. This will be A Members’ Afternoon. Stall will be biscuits and chocolates and the competition is guesstimate.

Sunderland Minster Vintage and Craft Fayre will take place on Saturday, December 10, from 10am to 3pm. Thre will be lots of stalls selling handbags, gifts, hand-crafted greetings cards and gift bags, jewellery and much more. Refreshments will be available.

Bernard Hope talks about Eddie Chapman – North East’s own agent – when he visits Ewesley Road Ladies’ Fellowship tomorrow at 7.30pm.

A soup lunch will be held at St Nicholas Church Haver Hall on Saturday at 12.30pm. The cost is £3 per person and includes a choice of soup, bread, homemade cake and tea or coffee. Money raised is going towards church funds.

Sunderland Ladies’ Probus Club will meet on Thursday in St John’s Church, Ashbrooke. Anya Simpson will be the speaker with her talk Satins and Silks. Coffee will be served at 10am and the meeting begins at 10.30am.
