Attempted robbery of Peterlee pensioner

AN elderly woman was dragged to the ground during an attempted robbery in Peterlee.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened at 2.20pm on Saturday, to come forward.

A spokesman for Peterlee Neighbourhood Police Team said the attempted robbery took place in Manor Way, a short way up from Peterlee Labour Club.

He said: “The female was dragged to the floor by a male, who tried to steal her handbag. The incident left the female both injured and badly shaken, she managed to hold on to her bag and the male fled empty handed.

“Officers are appealing for any information that may assist in identifying the male responsible or witnesses who may have seen the incident take place on a busy Saturday afternoon.”
