Asda in Boldon is once again hosting its annual match-making event in a bid to help people find their perfect date, whoever they’re looking for.

Last year, dozens of shoppers took part in the fun – wearing a ribbon to show they were on the lookout for romance.

It is hoped this year will be just as successful.

The singles night will run from 6pm until 9.30pm on Thursday, February 11, with shoppers asked to wear a pink or blue ribbon, which can be collected from the desk at the front of the store.

Community Life Champion Tracey Tough said: “We brought the singles night back last year after a break and it was quite a success with lots of people taking part in the fun.

“We even had some couples who hit it off and went upstairs to enjoy a coffee and a chat and to find out more about each other.

“Research has shown some people have been lucky enough to find love in the aisles, so hopefully this night will give those looking for romance a helping hand.”

Those lucky enough to hit it off with a fellow shopper can find out more about their potential love interest over a free cuppa in the upstairs cafe.

Research carried out in the past has revealed nearly one in ten people said supermarkets were the perfect place to meet someone as they were more relaxed than bars and clubs, while 2% of people admitted they went on to marry the person they met in the aisle.
