Arson woman awaiting court sentence

A WOMAN who set fire to a rented property will have to wait until later in the week to learn her fate.

Sophie Marie Stephenson was due to be sentenced at Durham Crown Court yesterday after she admitted arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered.

The 30-year-old is said to have caused £2,500 of damage to the East Durham Homes property in Peterlee on May 14.

Stephenson, who had been bailed to an address in Murray Street Hartlepool, but now lives in Cummins Square, Wingate, had denied arson with intent to endanger the life of another, but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered.

The court heard a psychiatric report was not ready for yesterday. The case was adjourned until this Thursday and Stephenson was bailed.
