CCTV images have been released of a man and woman who officers would like to speak to about graffiti on a Metro train in South Hylton, Sunderland.

At around 8.50pm on Tuesday, February 28, a man and a woman entered the station, but instead of boarding a train they walked along the platform to the end and loitered in the station whilst trains entered and left.

Eventually they jumped down from the platform, crossed the tracks and went into the bushes by the track.

At 9.10pm another Metro train arrived at the station and while it was stopped the pair sprayed graffiti on the side of the train, until around 9.17pm when they appeared to take photos of the train from the bushes.

After the train left the station, the man and woman climbed back onto the platform and exited the station.

Officers would like to speak to the man and woman shown in the CCTV images as they may have information which could help with the investigation.

PC Gavin Alcorn, said: “The people who decided to graffiti the Metro train put their lives at risk by trespassing on the tracks. By painting on the side of the train, they have also committed criminal damage and cost the train operator, and ultimately the passengers, money to clean up the graffiti – which also can cause delays to services as trains are taken out of action.

“If you recognise the people shown in the CCTV images, please contact me as they may be able to help with the investigation.”
