Appeal after cyclist injuries in Houghton hit-and-run

A driver who sped off from the scene of a crash which left a cyclist in hospital is being sought by police.

Police are appealing for information to trace the driver of a silver or grey BMW involved in the collision in Houghton on Monday, January 18.

The smash happened in Dairy Lane at about 6.25pm, when the 46-year-old cyclist was knocked by the vehicle, causing injuries.

He was treated in hospital and has since been discharged. The BMW did not stop at the scene and officers are keen to for the driver to come forward.

Police also believe there are witnesses to the collision they have not yet spoken to and are keen for these to get in contact. Any witnesses and anyone with information, should contact Northumbria Police on 101 quoting reference 823 of 180116.
