Antarctic Monkeys to turn up the heat at Wearside festival

Fake Festival will be celebrating ten years on the touring circuit by returning to Chester-le-Street’s Riverside Park with its biggest event yet.

Three headliners - Stereotonics, Flash and Antarctic Monkeys - share the bill will five North East support bands for the festival on Saturday, August 6.

Bec Evans, licensee for Chester-Le-Street Fake Festival, says she is delighted to be bringing the popular festival back to the park.

She said: “Now firmly established as County Durham’s biggest tribute event after selling out three years in a row, Chester-Le-Street Fake Festival has undoubtedly earned its reputation as the local summer party not to be missed.

“As I live in Chester-le-Street, the event is very close to my heart, so it’s pretty overwhelming to witness its increasing popularity every year as more and more people hear about the fun to be had at a Fake Festival. Back with a blockbuster line-up that has something for everyone, and supported by five very talented local bands, this year’s event could well be the biggest yet.”

The tenth anniversary celebrations will be going on all day and night and, as usual, there will be a main bar inside the marquee as well as a variety of food and entertainment stalls in the outside arena.

“It’s hard to believe that Fake Festivals started out in a small South Yorkshire village ten years ago, and now tours around the UK,” said Jez Lee, owner of Fake Festivals.

“I can clearly remember the day, and never imagined it would take off like it has. I’m really proud to be able to say we are the UK’s only touring tribute festival, and that we have kept it community-led too, and not sold out to the commercial pressures that a lot of festivals experience nowadays.”
