A1(M) slip road reopened after multi-vehicle accident near Washington

Emergency services have dealt with a multi-vehicle incident on the A1(M) near Washington.

At around 6.30pm on Wednesday, December 4, traffic officers confirmed that they were at the scene of an incident on the A1(M) and the J64 Washington Southbound entry slip road was closed.

A spokesperson for Highways England said: “Traffic Officers are on scene working alongside other emergency services.”

The traffic was delayed on the road during this time.

Highways England confirmed that the slip road had been reopened and that the vehicles had been recovered safely at around 7.35pm.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: “We received numerous reports of a crash in the area of the A1231 and near the Angel of the North.

“We sent vehicles but all we found was a HGV that had blown its tyre.”

We are awaiting a response from the Ambulance Service.
