A19 fully reopened following a lane closure caused by a crash heading towards the Hylton Bridge

All three lanes of the A19 heading northbound between the A183 and A1231 junctions are now open following a rush hour crash on Tuesday evening.

The incident happened at around 4.45pm on Tuesday, December 8 on the northbound carriageway of the A19 heading towards the Hylton Bridge and the A1231 junction.

The road was down to two lanes while emergency services dealt with the collision and now the road is fully opened.

Police confirmed that the lane would remain closed while the vehicles involved in the crash were recovered.

It is understood that no one has been injured in the crash.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: “There is an ongoing road traffic collision between the A183 and A1231 junctions of the A19.

"The road will be reopened once the vehicles involved have been removed.”
