15 criminals from the Sunderland area who were given jail sentences in March

These are the faces of some of the most serious criminals from the Wearside area who came before the courts in March.

Their crimes range from manslaughter and drug dealing to assault and burglary. It is not a list of all offenders jailed, but of those who have committed offences where our police forces have deemed it worthy to release their custody photographs to the public.

Cowboy builder Jarrett scammed elderly victims into paying more than 3,000 in deposits for gardening and construction jobs that weren't done. He admitted five counts of fraud and was jailed for 20 months.
Lawton hit his mother with a picture frame then threatened her with a knifeafter he was refused a cigarette. He admitted common assault and threatening with a bladed article, and was jailed for six months.
Control freak Mitchell hid secret cameras around a woman's home - including the headboard of her bed. He admitted controlling and coercive behaviour, was jailed for 18 months and given a lifelong restraining order.
The bungling burglar was caught wearing stolen clothes after leaving a trail of blood from a crime scene. He admitted two counts of burglary and was jailed for three years and 10 months.
Mountain was detained indefinitely after admitting manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility after stabbing 62-year-old shop worker Joan Hoggett to death in Roker last September.
Coates was jailed for nine years after admitting conspiracy to supply class A drugs, namely cocaine. He acted as retailer, selling drugs from a Stockport-based supplier to dealers around the North East.
Cummings threatened to kill his girlfriend while accusing her of having an affair with his son. He admitted two charges of assault, making a threat to kill and breach of a restraining order. He was jailed for four years.

Maginnis was locked inside the van he was trying to steal from when the owner caught him. He admitted theft, criminal damage and possessing an offensive weapon and was jailed for six months.
Ex-prison officer Brettell raped and sexually abused a young girl over the course of five years. He was found guilty by a jury of a string of sex offences, including four counts of rape, and was jailed for 18 years.
The ex-soldier was jailed for 12 years for sex attacks he carried out half a century ago. He denied two charges of indecent assault, one of indecency with a child and another serious sexual offence, but was found guilty..
She hit a pal on the head with a claw hammer after he disturbed a telephone call she was making. She admitted unlawful wounding and was given a 12-month sentence, suspended for two years.
Prolific thief Metcalf was jailed for six weeks and made the subject of a criminal behaviour order banning him from shopping centre across Sunderland.
Estranged husband Leach spat in his wife's face after she refused to kiss him on Christmas Day. He admitted common assault and breach of a restraining order, and was jailed for nine months.
The former roofer punched and kicked a woman 20 times and left her with fractured ribs and bruises all over her body. He admitted assault and two charges of common assault and was jailed for 23 months.
The serial burglar tried to wash away his blood with Pepsi after cutting himself at a crime scene. He was jailed for 49 months after admitting four burglaries and common assault.
