An 11-year-old boy has been taken to the RVI hospital in Newcastle after he was hit by a Ford Focus yesterday (Tuesday, June 23).

The incident happened around 6.25pm on Silksworth Lane in Sunderland.

An ambulance crew from the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) as well as Northumbria police attended the incident – with emergency services having to close the road while they worked at the scene.

It has been confirmed by the ambulance service that the child has suffered injuries to his chest and shoulder – they are believed to be “serious but non-life threatening”.

A spokesman for the NEAS said: “We received a call at 6.25pm reporting a road traffic accident involving a pedestrian on Silksworth Lane.

“A paramedic ambulance attended and a child was taken to the RVI with chest and shoulder injuries.”

“It was reported that an 11-year-old boy had been hit by a Ford Focus.

Emergency services attended the scene and the child was taken to hospital with a serious but non-life threatening injuries.

“The road was temporarily closed whilst emergency services worked but was open shortly after the collision.”
