The airline responded with speed to Crete coming off the quarantine list, by adding flights and holidays to the Greek island from Newcastle Airport in October and November.

Flights are now on sale, with weekly Saturday services operating to Crete (Heraklion) from Saturday, October 24 through to Saturday, November 14.

Crete was added to the exemption list for people arriving in England as the risk to public health from those returning from there “has decreased to an acceptable level”, the Department for Transport said.

The weekend flights are ideal for those looking for a getaway to the Greek sunshine, away from the cold weather in the UK.

And many flights are well-timed for the half-term holidays, with the airline expecting seats to sell quickly.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays said: “We know that the decision to remove quarantine rules is music to the ears of our customers, who are looking to get away to their favourite destinations for some sun, relaxation and time away from it all.
