A monster trail has been set up in Sunderland city centre this Halloween, with residents invited to download a free app to chase the critters across the city centre.
Part of Sunderland BID’s seasonal events, the augmented reality trail gives people the chance to follow a map on the app to capture the monsters – and at the same time they will be notified of special offers from businesses across the city.

How to play the Monster Hunt
To follow the trail you will need to download the app.
Search 'Sunderland Experience' app in your phone’s app store and go from there.
How does the Sunderland Monster hunt work?
The map will guide you to find the 13 monsters – six inflatables and seven vitural monsters which can be seen only through the app screen.
Once all 13 monsters have been collected, the app offers the opportunity to access the favourite virtual monster at home – or at any other location.

Social distancing on the Sunderland Monster Hunt
Sunderland BID and Sunderland City Council are reminding those following the Monster Hunt to stick to social distancing.
Councillor Graeme Miller, Leader of Sunderland City Council, said: "I would ask anyone planning to follow the Monster trail to make sure that they’re scrupulous about doing so in a safe socially distanced way.
“That means staying two metres apart from anyone outside their own household group or support bubble, wearing a face covering and washing their hands regularly.”
