As of Tuesday, January 5, the United Kingdom has returned to lockdown.

Non-essential retailers and gyms were already closed due to the North East’s Tier 4 restrictions, and now schools have joined them.

With people told to work from home unless they cannot, Sunderland city centre was once again all but deserted this morning.

A Christmas decoration remains in place for now.
