If you’re looking for some Instagram inspiration, we’ve rounded up a guide to places in and around the city that would look good on the grid.
9. Six, Pier Point
A new addition to Pier Point, Six has beautifully-designed interiors and food that's begging to be photographed. The views aren't half bad either. Photo: Katy Wheeler
10. Tommy statue, Seaham
A poignant place for a photo, the Tommy statue stands guard over Seaham as a tribute to those who sacrificed their lives in WW1. Created by local artist Ray Lonsdale, the sculpture is officially called 1101 (or Eleven-O-One), referring to the first minute of peace as the armistice came into force at 11am on 11 November 1918, but is affectionately known as Tommy. He's captured beautifully here by Dean Matthews Photography. Photo: Dean Matthews Photography
11. Monolith sculpture, Roker
The monolith on the 'Roker Riviera' is one of the most popular spots on the seafront for a photo. Artist Andrew Small was inspired by Bede's ideas on astronomy for the sculpture, called "C'. It's one of three pieces commissioned to mark the end of the C2C route. Photo: Stu Norton
12. The Palm, Hylton Riverside
Terrace views don't get much better than at The Palm. Inside, its four venues are also picture perfect with Havana-themed decor in Tropicuba, Alpine-esque fittings at Wildernest, beachcomber vibes at Pineapple Cove and plenty of photographic spots in Liberty Brown. Photo: Katy Wheeler
