World Cocktail Day: Six of your favourite drinks and how to make them
It’s not quite the weekend yet, but it IS World Cocktail Day – so that’s a good enough excuse to enjoy a cheeky tipple this evening.
In honour of the celebration – which falls on May 13 – we asked our readers to shout out their top choice cocktail, whether they’re heading out on the town or mixing it up at home.
And there were some great suggestions for all tastes.
If you’re planning a few drinks in the garden this weekend, or going out to enjoy your favourites al fresco, we have taken a look at how to make some cocktail classics.
These were your favourite suggestions across our social media pages:
*Vodka, triple sec, cranberry juice, lime juice
*Put all ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice and combine
*Strain into a martini glass and garnish with fresh lime
*White rum, lime juice, fresh mint, soda water, sugar
*Mash or ‘muddle’ mint leaves with the lime and sugar in a glass
*Add ice and a splash of soda water, before pouring rum on top
*Top off with more soda and garnish with a citrus slice and more mint
*White rum, coconut cream, pineapple juice
*Whizz all ingredients in a blender with ice
*Serve in a tall glass and garnish with fresh pineapple or cocktail cherries
*Vodka (vanilla if possible), passion fruit liqueur, passion fruit juice, lime juice, Prosecco
*Add all ingredients – minus the Prosecco – to a cocktail shaker with ice and combine
*Strain into a martini glass and garnish with fresh passion fruit
*Serve alongside a shot of Prosecco
*White rum, lime juice, fresh strawberries made into a puree, two spoons of sugar
*Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker and stir well until sugar disolves
*Add ice and shake, then strain into a chilled glass
Sex On The Beach
*Vodka, peach schnapps, orange juice, cranberry juice
*Pour all ingredients into a glass and stir
*Garnish with ice and an orange slice
Shout out to some other classic cocktails including the Aperol Spritz, Bellini, Manhattan, Margarita, Martini, Old Fashioned and Tom Collins.
