We're hosting a Super Saturday at our Sunderland taproom - here's what's in store

The taproom is tucked away on the banks of the Wear.

The organisers of a city taproom open day say you can look forward to ‘great beer, amazing food and live music’ as it gears up for a Super Saturday event.

BrewLab Brews is hosting its next Super Saturday this weekend, on Saturday, July 4, with a whole day of locally-brewed beer and entertainment.

Based at BrewLab in West Quay Court on Sunderland Enterprise Park, in the shadow of the Queen Alexandra Bridge, BrewLab Brews taproom opens its doors for events to give people the chance to try some really unique, small-batch beers whilst sat amongst the brewing vessels.

The next Super Saturday runs from 11am to 8pm and will also feature Arigato Japanese food truck.

Music-wise, Sunderland Youth Orchestra will perform at around 12.30pm, with singer-songwriter David Stoker performing his guitar-led music at 2pm.

The BrewLab team will be serving its own craft beer all day, available in cask, keg and bottles. They will also have soft drinks, wines and spirits available too and a tuck-shop for the kids.

Kate McHugh, Marketing Assistant and Event Co-Ordinator at BrewLab, said: “We’re really looking forward to the event this year.

“Our past two Super Saturday events have been a blast, with everyone in attendance having fun listening to the music and enjoying their beers and food. The local orchestra and singer really bring a fantastic family friendly atmosphere.

“We’re currently getting the beers for Super Saturday brewed and ready for the big day, as well as preparing the tuck shop for the kids. We are excited to welcome new and familiar faces to our taproom this July!”

Established in 1992, BrewLab supports the brewing, distilling and wider drinks industry and has earned a national and international reputation.

One of the only labs of its kind in the country, it carries out laboratory analysis for smaller brewers who don’t have such facilities - thus helping to increase the levels of consistency in beers across the UK.

As well as making its own beer sold at pubs such as The Ivy House and The Canny Lad, BrewLab teaches the art of brewing, with students coming from as far afield as Japan, the USA and India to learn the craft.

Many former students have gone on to run successful breweries, including Vaux, S43, Tiny Rebel, Barcelona Beer Company, Wylam Brewery, Wear Beer and Beavertown Brewery.
