Valentine’s Day is here, but with lockdown measures keeping us all at home on the big day of romance, date night is going to have to be from the comfort of your own living room.

Actually, that takes the hassle out of arranging something this year, and with many Leeds restaurants offering takeaway editions of their most popular dishes, you can get the fine dining experience at home!

Proving that a takeaway doesn’t have to be a slap-up box of greasy junk food you quickly snaffle between cans of mid-strength lager (though, if that’s your Valentine’s vibe, run with it), these takeouts will keep everything as classy as possible.

That means, for £65 per couple, you’ll get a three-course meal of starters, mains and sides, dessert, and a ”bubbly treat”.

Of course, the highlight of Peace and Loaf’s ‘Peace of Pie’ takeaway (in operation since lockdown closed the restaurant) has always been its pies, and the menu here includes a bourguignon pie served with dauphinoise potato.

Why not go double pie and get one in for dessert? A millefeuille of apple pie with chocolate truffles will do just the trick.

Sushi Me Rollin'

Stack, Pilgrim St, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 6QE

Sushi Me Rollin' – the handmade sushi restaurant found within Stack – launched its delivery service recently, and while sushi might not be the first thing that springs to mind for a romantic, Valentine’s meal, there’s no denying this is some of the best in the north east.

The date night platter on offer here includes a 30 piece chef’s selection of sushi, dips, a bottle of prosecco, and doughnuts from R Place in Monkseaton.

You’ll need to head into Newcastle for collection this time (there were only ever 20 slots for delivery, exclusivity fans), and pre-ordering is certainly recommended.
