If you’re looking to pick up a pizza, here’s our guide, in no particular order, to some of the best on offer in Sunderland and the surrounding area.
5. The Port of Call, Seaham
Specialising in gin and pizza, this bar and restaurant is a striking addition to North Terrace's string of independent businesses. It's a little sister to the Port of Call in Sunderland city centre. Its sourdough-base pizzas are made in the on-site pizza oven. Photo: Frank Reid
6. Bellini, Seaburn Dene, Sunderland
For family-friendly dining and plenty of free parking, Bellini is a safe bet. It's classic Italian food, done well. Photo: Stu Norton
7. Tosca, Derwent Street, Sunderland
This family-run restaurant is one of the longest-running in the city where it's been serving up quality Italian food for 30 years. Its calzone choices are particularly good and are filled with options such as pan fried diced fillet steak, onions and chillies or BBQ piri piri spicy pulled pork and jalapenos. Photo: Stu Norton
8. Chilinos, Albion Place, Sunderland
Best consumed at 2am after a few sociables, Chilinos offer a great post-party pizza to help stave off the hangover. Their cheesy chips are not to be sniffed at either. Photo: Kevin Brady
