The popular food supplier, which has been operating in the city since the 1920s, is also offering a call and collect service, allowing customers to park for a few minutes in South Street - at the back of the market, but excluding the disabled bays unless they have a valid disabled badge - to pick up their produce, without fear of incurring a parking ticket.

Joanne Ibbitson, the third generation of Ibbitson to run the business, said: “These are such challenging times, and we are all having to adapt to a new way of living – particularly for more vulnerable people who have to stay at home to keep themselves safe from the virus.

“We were keen to introduce a package that would allow us to support such people, as well as to make it easier for others to purchase our goods.”

It comes as Sunderland Echo is running our #SupportLocal campaign aimed at promoting the amazing things our local businesses are doing at this difficult time.

The business is offering a range of packs, designed to provide families with a number of meat products to keep them well-stocked during the lockdown ordered by Government.

A £20 pack includes 500g steak mince, 500g diced braising steak, 500g diced chicken breast, 500g back bacon and six links of home-made thick pork sausage.

Customers can also add a range of extras including a joint of boneless outdoor reared pork leg, a whole chicken or a joint of beef silverside to their pack for a small additional cost. They are also offering a range of homemade pies and pastries.

Jacky Whites has two food stalls still open – Ibbitson’s Butchers and Thoburn’s Greengrocers, who are also offering a free delivery service https://www.thoburnsfreshproduceltd.co.uk/ - and with Sunderland City Council having introduced new parking arrangements to allow for collection from behind the market, it is easy to pick up food boxes.
