The Euro 2020 competition has had to take place a year later than originally planned, but it’s still set to be a hotly-fought contest with twenty-four teams playing across 51 matches in 11 cities around Europe between June 11 and July 11.
And there’s plenty of Sunderland pub beer gardens that’ll be screening games so you can watch the action outside with a pint in hand.
Here’s a guide to some of the pubs that’ll be hosting big screens for the event, with plenty more showing the games indoors.
1. Langham Tower, Ashbrooke
Sunderland's newest beer garden, at the historic Langham Tower, will have a big screen for the matches. There's a good variety of drink available from the outside bars, plus look out for the street food traders. Photo: JPI Media
2. The Mill House, Washington / Birtley border

3. Victoria Gardens, Grangetown
The Victoria Gardens in Grangetown has already created a large beer garden at the rear of the pub to cater for people returning to pubs. Now the space, which can hold up to 400 people, will be installed with a huge outdoor screen and a new outdoor bar to create a fan zone for this summer’s Euros tournament. During the last Lockdown, popular Italian restaurant Diego’s moved into the pub from its original base at Ashbrooke Sports Club. The food has been going down a storm with punters returning to the pub after restrictions eased, and people will be able to order its range of classic Italian dishes from the fan zone. A new outdoor bar selling draught beers will also be in place. And when the football matches aren’t on, the big screen will be used to show films. Photo: JPI Media
4. The Saltgrass, Deptford
The Saltgrass has just installed a huge screen in its expanded outdoor area in preparation for Euro 2021. The historic pub now has three beer garden areas which are proving popular. Look out for a number of events taking place over the summer. Photo: JPI Media
