6. New arrivals
The arrival of Tesco is not the only new addition to the Bridges this week, with international jewellery brand Lovisa opening on Friday. The fashion-forward company, which has more than 900 stores in 45 countries, is taking over the former Pigment and Toil art gallery in the centre. | Elliot Nichol Photography

7. Much needed
News of Tesco’s planned return to the city centre has previously been welcomed by Liberal Democrat councillor Niall Hodson, who represents the area as part of Millfield ward. Speaking in January, 2024, he said: “This is fantastic news, giving people another reason to come into the town and support local businesses at the same time – and helping people living in the city centre who desperately need a supermarket.2 | Elliot Nichol Photography
