Coronavirus: Sunderland healthworkers treated to free pizza from Pizza Uno in Pallion during Covid-19 pandemic

So far, more than 75 NHS workers have been treated to free pizza from Pizza Uno in Pallion who have teamed up with the Food Porn North East Facebook group to lift morale in the health crisis.

By showing their NHS card when placing or collecting a pizza order from the Sunderland store in St Luke’s Terrace, healthcare workers have been given the orders for free.

Jolene Casey, from Food Porn North East, said: “Everyone is panicking about the current situation, but we are all safe at home with our families.

“I feel heartily sorry for our fabulous NHS who are, in fact, putting their own lives at risk right now so myself and Pizza Uno Sunderland wanted to do something we could to help.”

The offer is running every day at the moment and is proving popular with hungry NHS staff.

Jolene added: “It really has lifted the dark mood in the city at the minute. It was a hard choice picking a takeaway to work with, but I knew that Pizza Uno would deliver and not let the city down.”

Other city businesses have also stepped up to help our NHS staff in these unprecedented times.

In the city centre, Holmeside Coffee is offering coffees, for take away or sit in, for the reduced price of £1 for NHS staff. The coffee shop remains open, despite the Museum & Winter Gardens being closed.
