None of the city’s eateries received a coveted Michelin star, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some excellent restaurants in and around Sunderland. Here is an alphabetical list of 11 which are well worth a visit.
They have all earned at least one Echo-lin star.
9. Spice Empire, Church Lane (opposite Empire Theatre)
This is an unashamedly old-style Indian restaurant with very good staff and curries to match. Also another place with especially good soups. Photo: Sunderland Echo
10. Stables, West Herrington
Perhaps the nearest thing Sunderland has to a country pub, The Stables also has a well-earned reputation for its food. Sunday lunches are a highlight, but they also serve proper burgers made from quality ground beef - how burgers are supposed to taste. Photo: Sunderland Echo
11. Yuvraaj, Douro Terrace, Ashbrooke
You can make yourself hungry by just thinking about this place, which offers some of the best traditional Indian cuisine featuring influences of Bangladesh and Western cooking. Photo: Sunderland Echo
