However, fish and chips on Good Friday, April 10, is one Easter treat we can still enjoy in line with Government guidelines.
Many businesses in Sunderland and the surrounding area have closed, but a few are still open and we’ve rounded up some of them doing a chippy tea to your door.
Search for the shops on Facebook or delivery apps for details.
1. Downey's
Family-run chippie Downey's has built up a firm following across its shops in Seaham, Roker, Barnes and Pallion. You can call one of the chippies to place an order for delivery on Good Friday, but once the slots are gone they're gone. No orders will be taken on Friday, so you'll need to call between 3.30pm and 8pm before then. Opening hours are extended on Good Friday from 11am to 8pm. Photo: JPI Media
2. Merrills, Chester Road
Merrills have closed for takeaway but offer a contactless delivery service. You order must be paid online or over the phone. The driver will leave your order on your door step and notify you by knocking on the door/ringing the door bell. Photo: stock shot
