15 Sunderland pubs set to reopen for business from May 17 as lockdown restrictions continue to ease

As part of the phased reopening of the country, from May 17 indoor hospitality is expected to be able to reopen their doors for groups of six or two households mixing.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson will confirm if restrictions will be eased as planned next week in a Downing Street press conference later today, Monday, May 10.

Venues will still have to provide table service only but it’s a sigh of relief for many Sunderland businesses who can finally welcome customers once more.

Some establishments are by booking only, while others are on a first come first served basis – all details are subject to change and customers are advised to check pubs’ websites, social media or to call them beforehand.

Here’s 15 pubs and bars across Sunderland preparing to welcome customers back on May 17:

808 Bar & Kitchen

21 St Thomas' Street, Sunniside, Sunderland SR1 1QD

808 Bar and Kitchen will be open Monday to Sunday from 12pm until late.

Chaplins

40 Stockton Road, Sunderland SR1 3NR

Chaplins will be open Monday to Sunday from 10am until 12am.

The Cliff

Mere Knolls Rd, Roker, Sunderland SR6 9LG

The cliff will be open Sunday to Thursday from 12pm until 11pm and Friday to Saturday 12pm until 12am.

Flanagan's

1 Holmeside, Sunderland SR1 3JG

Flanagan's will be open Sunday to Thursday 11am until 1am and Friday to Saturday 11am until 2am.

The Grange Sizzling Pub

Newcastle Rd, Sunderland SR5 1PL

The Grange will be open Sunday to Thursday from 12pm until 10pm and Friday to Saturday 12pm until 11pm.

New Derby

New Derby Hotel, Roker Baths Rd, Roker, Sunderland SR6 9TA

The Peacock

287 High Street West, Sunderland

Will open daytime on weekdays for the first time after May 17 and have a new lunch menu.

Sam’s Bar

42 West Sunniside, Sunderland

Sam’s Bar will be open on Monday from 4pm until 10pm, Tuesday to Thursday 4pm until 12am, Friday from 3pm until 1am, Saturday 12pm until 1am and Sunday 1pm until 1am.

Sinatras

31 Holmeside, Sunderland

Sinatras will be open Monday 11am until 5.30pm, Friday to Saturday from 11am until 10pm and Sunday 11.30am until 6pm.

Stumble Inn

88 Chester Road, Sunderland

The Stumble Inn will be open Sunday to Thursday from 12pm until 11pm and Friday to Saturday 12pm until 12am.

Ttonic

12-13 Vine Place, Sunderland

Ttonic will be open Monday to Sunday from 11am until 3am.

Vesta Tilleys

309 High Street West, Sunderland

Vesta Tilleys will be open Sunday to Thursday from 11am until 11pm and Friday to Saturday from 11am until 1am.

Washington Arms

Wearside Farm

Wearside Farm will be open Sunday to Thursday from 8am until 10pm and Friday to Saturday from 8am until 11pm.

Yates will be open Monday until Saturday 9am until 10pm and Sunday from 10am until 10pm.
