1. Borneo Bistro, Hylton Road

2. Cole Coffee & Deli, St George's Terrace, Roker
A charming coffee shop and cafe in a former house in Roker, Cole is a little off the beaten track but definitely worth a visit. As well as coffee to warm you up after a walk along the beach, you can pick up some great home-made cakes, soups and more. Look out for their wine tasting nights too. Photo: Katy Wheeler
3. Mexico 70, High Street West, city centre
