From breathing new life into underused buildings along the seafront to open air gigs, there’s plenty in the pipeline for 2021 – despite the current climate.
We’ve rounded up some of the new openings and events planned for when Lockdown eases. Note that information is current at the time of going to print, providing the roadmap for leading the country out of Lockdown goes to plan.
13. Holiday Inn, Keel Square, Autumn 2021
The 120-bed Holiday Inn, which will overlook Sunderland city centre’s Keel Square, will create 130 posts when it is completed towards the end of 2021. The £18m development will also include four ground-floor commercial units with opportunities for food and drink businesses.
14. City Hall, Riverside Quarter, old Vaux site, Autumn 2021
Work is forging ahead on the new City Hall, which will be Sunderland City Council's headquarters, on the site of the old Vaux site. Part of the new Riverside Sunderland urban quarter, the 190,000 sq ft hub is set to house council staff and a range of public sector partners including Gentoo and the Department for Work and Pensions.
