The Northumberland and Tyne & Wear National Trust properties set to reopen - but only for visitors who book in advance

National Trust chiefs have announced which properties will open from June 3 as lockdown eases.

The Trust closed all ticketed properties and shut down many of its car parks under measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The heritage and conservation charity reopened the majority of its car parks earlier in May, and is now reopening some of its grounds and gardens – but strictly for those who book in advance to make sure numbers are managed.

The properties reopening on June 3 included Wallington in Northumberland, and Gibiside in rural Gateshead, Tyne & Wear.

The others reopening in its “North” division include Beningbrough Hall, North Yorkshire; Dunham Massey, Greater Manchester; and Lyme and Quarry Bank in Cheshire.

Only gardens and parklands will be open, historic buildings remain closed to visitors.

How booking works:

The National Trust website states: “All visitors must book a ticket in advance, including members. When you book your visit, you’ll need to choose a 30-minute arrival time for the day you want to visit.

“Please book one ticket per person, except for children aged 5 or under as they don’t need a ticket. New booking timeslots are released on a Friday for visits the following week.”

Timeslots are for time of arrival only, the length of time you can stay will depend on the place you're booking, and the booking form will specify how long you can stay.

Due to limited spaces, the Trust is asking people only book once a week to allow others a chance to visit.

Bosses are not able to open all gardens and parklands yet, so there are some places where you can book a car parking space only.

Visitors to those sties will be able to explore the surrounding area but not access the gardens and parklands. If you're booking a car parking space only, you'll need to book one ticket per car.

Key workers are being given priority when it comes to booking time slots.

Payment and parking

Members can visit and park for free, but must take their membership card.

Non-members will need to pay online in advance through the booking system.
