We’ve rounded up some of the activities taking place in and around Sunderland, from getting your skates on at the Keel Square roller rink to travelling through time at Kynren.
9. Kids cookery workshops, Posh Street Food, Stack Seaburn
MasterChef contestant Matei Baran is hosting his Big Chef, Mini Chef series at Stack Seaburn this summer, with his free educational cookery workshops for kids taking place on selected Mondays during the six-week holidays.
The workshops, which will take place on Monday, July 25, August 8, 15 and 25 and September 5 will be held at the Posh Street Food restaurant at the front of Stack from 10am to 11am and bookings can be made via the Post Street Food Facebook page.

10. Make your own plate, Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens.
As part of the Pyrex 100 exhibition at Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens there will be workshops to make your own patterned plate on July 29 and August 5. Join artist Amy Carter-Taylor to design your own plate pattern inspired by Sunderland Pyrex designs using your own drawings and images from vintage newspapers and magazines. The designs you choose will be transferred onto a real glass plate to take home. This activity is suitable for ages 4+.

11. Summer fun, Beamish Museum, County Durham
Enjoy a whole summer of fun, including traditional transport, Georgian games and creative crafts at Beamish Museum.
There are fantastic fun-filled activities lined up every day during the summer holidays at Beamish for the Summer of Fun event, which runs from 2nd July to 31st August.
There’s also a range of exciting events happening at the museum during the summer, including Crank it Up! (9th and 10th July), Meccano Weekend (16th and 17th July), Buses at Beamish (16th and 17th July), Tractors Assemble (23rd and 24th July) and Dig for Victory (1st to 4th September). Photo: submitted
12. Kynren, Bishop Auckland
Kynren – an epic tale of England - returns to its spectacular Bishop Auckland stage this summer, with six Saturday performances from 6th August to 10th September.
More than 1,000 cast and crew put on the show, which starts at sunset and ends in starlight with a firework finale.
Kynren provides a pre-booked Park and Ride bus service and there is designated parking for Blue Badge Holders, subject to availability.
Gates open two and a half hours before the start of each show, allowing visitors the opportunity to arrive early for food and drink, whilst enjoying live jazz by the lake.
