The £2.5million leisure development is rapidly taking shape on Sunderland’s seafront and the latest swath of vendors have been announced ahead of its opening in Spring.

They include family-run Mexican street food vendor, Chapos Tacos. Owned by the British-Mexican Chapman family, the Mexican container will bring healthy, fresh, family recipes to Seaburn, made by professional chefs who have appeared on some of Mexico’s most popular television shows.

Gabriella Chapman, co-owner of Chapos Tacos, who lives in Sunderland, said: “Our aim is to give the North of England the great Mexican street food experience. I am originally from Mexico City, which is dubbed the ‘Capital of street food tacos.’

“My family in Mexico have professional qualifications in Mexican gastronomy and have reached the semi-finals on a popular cooking TV programme which is broadcast nationwide in Mexico. All of our recipes here at Chapos Tacos have been passed down through our families.”

Joining Chapos is health-conscious Thai street food vendor, Healthy Thaim.

The healthy food establishment, owned by Natalie Brand, has a base in Thorney Close, but is expanding to STACK to meet demand.

Café YOLO is also joining the line-up and will be offering premium coffee. It’s aiming to become a popular brunch spot, offering breakfasts, lunches, pancakes and baked goods.

Café YOLO will, like the rest of the site, be dog friendly and be open from early morning daily.

Neill Winch, CEO of The Danieli Group, which owns STACK, said: “We are really pleased to be welcoming on board more businesses which are offering visitors the chance to eat authentic cuisine from across the world.

“We now only have a couple of street food units available to fill and by the time we open there will be a really wide choice of street food options to please everyone including vegans, vegetarians and the healthy conscious eaters.”

The newly-announced traders join previously announced vendors; Boojie Burger, Acropolis Street Food, Woofs n Scruffs doggy store and grooming, and award-winning Downey’s Fish and Chips. The majority of traders have roots in Sunderland and Seaburn, with others coming on board from outside the area.

Work is well underway on the development on the site of the former Seaburn Centre, which is set to bring 150 jobs to the city as part of the wider Sunderland Seafront Regeneration Project.

There will be 87 shipping containers in total, with a mixture of food traders and commercial units.
