After weeks of extensive renovations costing around £20,000, Pati Cake Patisserie has opened in the former The Fire Place shop in Tunstall Road.

It’s the brainchild of husband and wife team Patrycja and Ariel Niesporek who have expanded their Pati Cake Bakery to open the patisserie, which is named after Patrycja’s nickname.

The couple, who are originally from Poland, say they are hoping to bring something different to the area, which as well as cakes, cookies, cheesecakes and scones offers coffees, sandwiches and home-made pizza slices.

Patrycja, who makes all the cakes herself, said: “I’ve been doing the cake business for two years and it’s proved popular. A lot of customers have said I should open a shop, so opening the patisserie was the next step. There isn’t anything else like this around here.

“We do some really colourful cakes, and offer Polish favourites as well, such as apple cake and rum truffle. The Polish apple cake is different to British apple pie, the apple is a lot smoother and more delicious, we think. We also have vegan and gluten-free options.

“We really pride ourselves on the quality of our cakes. So we always use butter instead of margarine and our cakes aren’t as sugary as some others, as we prefer natural flavours.”

The new patisserie is available for sit-in or take away and people can also order occasion cakes from the shop.

Ariel said: “We’ve been working really hard on the renovations, and even had the wallpaper imported from Poland, so we’ve had a lot of people asking about what we’re doing. Some have even had their faces pressed up against the window.

“It had been the fireplace shop for around two decades and people knew it for that so I think they're interested in how it’s been changed. It’s still very early days, but we’re hoping more people will realise we’re here.”

*The new Pati Cake Patisserie is open seven days a week from 8am.
