Sunderland's Queen Alexandra Bridge to be closed for 11 weeks

Drivers are being warned of disruption to their journeys with the planned closure of a landmark bridge in Sunderland.

Sunderland City Council is taking out a temporary closure order on the Queen Alexandra Bridge for 11 weeks from next month.

It is planned that the B1539 road and pathways on the bridge will be closed from June 1 to enable maintenance work to be undertaken.

During the closure, all traffic and pedestrians will be prohibited except for vehicles and personnel involved in the works and emergency service vehicles.

The council say an alternative route will be signposted using the adjacent highway network.
