Steve Potts is telling the story of his life in a book called Leap Like a Salmon, Drink Like a Fish.

The 75-year-old was born in Southwick and later his family moved to the Hylton Castle area.

The second volume is now out and Steve said: “If Book 1 explored where I came from, Book 2 is about everywhere life took me afterwards.”

The first book looked at his early world travels and the second instalment describes fantastic places and milestones - but most of all the people who made an impression on him.

“After that year of movement, I found myself back in London, trying to settle into work again while still carrying the restlessness that travel leaves behind. That restlessness led to one of the most impulsive and rewarding decisions of my life: buying a farmhouse in rural France with my friend Adrian. It was equal parts dream and chaos, but it became a place where ideas and plans had room to breathe,” said Steve.

Steve returned to South Africa, then went to Japan, and took in the Olympics in Barcelona; the FIFA World Cup in France; and the British & Irish Lions tour of South Africa.

He added: “But the real heart of Book 2 is not the miles travelled or the stadiums visited. It is the people. And one person in particular. Somewhere between the airports, the competitions, the farmhouse renovations, and the sporting adventures, I met Anne-Marie, the moment that turned a global journey into a personal one, the chapter that changed every chapter after it.

“Book 2 is about movement across continents, careers, passions, and relationships. But it is also about connection: how every place leaves a mark, how every decision leads to the next, and how, no matter how far you travel, the story always comes back to who you become along the way.
