Rare film footage from Sunderland in 1973 captures parade through city's streets
A chance to relive a 1970s parade through Sunderland has been shared with the Echo.
We head back to 1973 for a view of the earliest part of the Wearmouth 1300 celebrations.
Jazz bands can be seen marching through town and we think the Pennywell Toreadors are among them. Are we right and can you identify some of the other bands in the parade?
There are floats as well as the crowds turned out to watch the spectacle.
It was filmed by Bob Wingate whose son David told the Sunderland Echo more. He said the parade was captured for posterity as it passed by their family home.
Bob, who passed away around nine years ago, worked at Saxons before he left to become the manager of the photography department at Binns.
