These 47-year-old pictures show the school ship SS Nevasa which took Sunderland children away on educational cruises for two weeks around 50 years ago.
It was a unique chance for children to enjoy a voyage to far-off locations such as Stockholm, Leningrad and Copenhagen.
David Wingate was once such student and shared the photos that he and his dad Bob took of his trip to Helsinki in 1974.
Look at the crowds of parents seeing off their young ones at Sunderland docks. Take a look at a rare collection of fascinating photos.
Our thanks go to David and watch out for more from his 1970s memories in the Echo soon.
