A seafront drive in Sunderland - captured in rare film footage from 37 years ago. Take a look

And it shows reminders of the Seaburn to Roker area from an era long gone.

Our thanks go yet again to Joe and Keith Liddle for sharing it with us. Joe, 78, took these scenes as he went on a drive round Sunderland in 1983 and he shared them with his brother Keith, 63, who kindly forwarded the footage to the Sunderland Echo.

It shows a clifftop drive along the A183 before the journey takes us down to the seafront. Look how the cars have changed, but what about the scenery?

Our last section of footage will be shared with readers soon and it shows the Pallion and Millfield areas. We hope it brings back lots of happy memories.

Keith explained that his father used to live in Sunderland and worked at Doxfords shipyard but left Wearside in 1954 to work as a riveter in a Beverley shipyard on minesweepers.

He said his brother Keith hails from Sunderland and took the footage on a return to Wearside in 1983.
