Six leisure centres across the Sunderland area raised more than £2,000 in Wear It Pink events for charity last week.

Supporting Breast Cancer Now – the charity partner of award-winning leisure operator Everyone Active which manages the centres on behalf of Sunderland City Council – leisure centre colleagues and customers took part in a range of fundraising activities on Friday, 18 October.

Marking the charity’s flagship fundraising event, people were encouraged to dress in pink during fitness activities to show their support for breast cancer awareness.

Customers and colleagues also got involved in a series of fundraising raffles, games, book sales and cake bakes. At Silksworth Sports Complex, tennis players took to the courts in pink dressing gowns while Clubbercise classes helped promote breast cancer awareness. Sunderland Aquatic Centre ran a special football game card fundraiser, and a pink flamingo spread the word at Hetton Community Pool and Houghton Sports and Fitness Centre, where visitors enjoyed Wear It Pink Zumba sessions and coffee and cakes in exchange for donations. Washington Leisure Centre hosted a bake sale and raffle, and Raich Carter Sports Centre held extra £1 charity swim sessions.
