Free consultations at private dental clinics where patients can be seen within a week
When dental technicians Colin Caster and Mark Maley opened their first City Dental clinic to serve Sunderland more than a decade ago, they already had a combined technical knowledge of 50 years in dentistry.
Colin, who began work in the Oral Surgery Department at Middlesbrough General Hospital, had previously set up and expanded A-line Dental Services to become the largest independent dental laboratory in the north east and the first laboratory in the UK to be ISO quality standard registered.
They believed there was a need for a dental surgery which offered patients services which were above and beyond what was usually provided by the NHS – and Mark is the previous deputy chairman of the advisory and examination boards for dental care professionals.
Excellent service in a relaxed setting
Mark explains: “Colin and I began City Dental with the ethos of providing dental care that we would like to receive ourselves. This ethos still stands today and we are proud of what we have created. Their team of experts has grown to cover all aspects of dentistry in modern, well-equipped clinics which also have a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
The City Dental team includes two hygienists, an oral surgeon for dental implants and five nurses, who look after their patients. General dentistry is provided, as well as cosmetic treatments, bridges, veneers and teeth straightening.
Dentures made on site with start to finish service
With the expertise of clinical dental technicians on site, they are also able to produce dentures from start to finish – ensuring that nothing is lost in translation and dentures with the best fit can be produced, without delays.
City Dental’s laboratory technicians also produce their own crowns and bridges, as well as implants, in order to guarantee their quality.

City Dental provides private dentistry, from a simple check-up to the most complex cases.
Dental plans are offered at £15 a month, which include two check-ups, two hygienist appointments and a discount on treatments.
Colin Caster said: “A lot of people are finding it difficult to get NHS appointments but we are able to see them within a week.
“People think that private dentistry is expensive but when they come along, they see that there is not a big difference for the quality of service and product they receive. We are not expensive – but we like to think that we are priceless.”
