Most businesses are on lock-down, but the Government has identified a number of sectors employing keyworkers whose roles are still vital.

The list of sectors employing key workers is: health and social care; education and childcare; key public services; local and national government; food and other necessary goods; public safety and national security; transport; utilities, communication and financial services.

Here are 12 key worker or home-working roles you can apply for in and around Sunderland.

Warehouse worker – Amazon.

Duties: receiving and sorting parcels into the correct postcodes and ensuring accuracy within the parcels.

Salary: Night Shift -£10.50 plus plus £2 per hour until April 30. Overtime - £20 (nights) per hour plus £2 per hour until April 30. An extension to paid breaks to enable respectful distancing in sites.

E-mail support advisor.

Responsibilities: dealing with customer queries and responding via email, handling large volumes of emails which include customer orders.

Requirements: excellent written communication skills, ability to adapt and relate to each individual customer. Previous customer service experience in a similar role is desirable.

Hours: Working hours are from either 8am until 5pm or 9am until 6pm working five days out of seven.

Food production operative.

Responsibilities: preparing chicken products, packing chicken into containers, and carrying out housekeeping and cleaning when required. Although training is provided, you must have previous experience within the food production industry and must hold a Basic Hygiene Level 2 Certificate in manufacturing.

Salary: £8.96-£11.20 per hour.

Hours: 6am to 2pm, 2pm to 10pm, 10pm to 6am. Weekend working is mandatory and additional hours may also be available on some shifts, up to a maximum of 12 hours.

Duties: delivering a tailored service to customers, communicating clearly and effectively with other areas and businesses, foreseeing and solving future complications.

Salary: £19,200, based on working 37.5 hours a week.

Hours: contact centre is open seven days a week from 5:30am to midnight and applicants must be able to commit fully to shifts.

Assistant curriculum leader in PE – Southmoor School

Responsibilities: liaising with the Curriculum Leader to ensure the provision of an effective and consistent PE curriculum within Sandhill View Academy and across the Trust.

Requirements: applicants should be well-qualified PE specialists with a passion for the subject, able to lead PE with drive and enthusiasm to secure outstanding pupil outcomes and able to support beyond the department in other vocational subjects, including Child Development.

Support worker – Sunderland care and support service

Responsibility: sleep over and waking night shifts.

Requirements: all staff appointed need to be flexible, work some weekends and bank holidays and be able to work and travel across the City of Sunderland. Applicants should have NVQ in Health and Social Care, two-plus years in a similar role, recent DBS check and clean UK driving licence.

Salary: This role is initially available for a period of three-six months and will be paying an hourly rate of £10.50 for 37.5 hours a week.

Maintenance craftsperson – Sunderland Royal Hospital

Responsibilities: South Tyneside and Sunderland Foundation Trust has four main sites where maintenance is undertaken; Sunderland Royal Hospital, Durham Treatment Centre, Sunderland Eye Infirmary and the Children’s Centre, and the the engineering team provides planned/reactive maintenance, and emergency services 24/7 365 days a year as well as minor installation services.

Hours: initially, the work will be a dayshift Monday to Friday role, however, this role may form part of the six week shift rota providing cover from 8am to 11pm seven days a week on call rota.

Salary: from £23,472 to £31,268 depending upon demonstrable competencies at Band 4/Band 5 level.

Postal delivery driver – Royal Mail

Role: You will start your day for an hour or so in the local delivery office, sorting the mail for your route, before taking out your van to complete your round. You will be given a hand-held computer device to capture customer signatures for deliveries and the round will take around four hours to complete.

Hours: full and part-time. The role is working any five days from six with an opportunity to work overtime. Successful candidates will receive a weekly minimum 20-hour guarantee for two weeks.

Salary: £9.50 per hour working from 11am up until 9pm.

Customer assistant – Lidl

Duties: checking and unpacking deliveries, working on the tills, stocking shelves and helping customers.

Hours: 21 to 30 hours a week. Stores are open Monday to Sunday so applicants need to be able to work weekends, as well as weekday shifts and have the fhe flexibility to start an early shift at 5am or finish a late shift at 11pm.

Salary: starting from £9.30 with the ability to earn up to £10.50 per hour (dependant on experience).
