Prime Minister Boris Johnson has today (Tuesday, June 23) announced further easing to Covid-19 lockdown measures, which will allow a number of businesses to reopen for the first time since March.

Speaking in the House of Commons on Tuesday, Mr Johnson announced the large number of places – including pubs and hotels – that will officially be allowed to reopen from Saturday, July 4, as well as those which will have to wait a bit longer.

Non-essential businesses and hospitality venues had to shut up shop in March due to the nationwide coronavirus restrictions.

A phased reopening has been taking place in recent weeks, with Tuesday’s announcement the latest step in bringing the country out of lockdown.

Measures detailing how places can reopen in a so-called ‘Covid-secure’ manner will be issued to each sector by the Government in due course.

Speaking to MPs, the Prime Minister also detailed how the current two-metre social distancing rule will instead be replaced with a one-metre rule – but with the added mitigation of wearing face coverings.

These are the places that can reopen next month, according to the latest update:

*Hotels, hostels, bed and breakfast accommodation, holiday apartments or homes, cottages or bungalows, campsites, caravan parks or boarding houses

*Restaurants, cafes, workplace canteens, bars, pubs

*Cinemas. Theatres and concert halls can also reopen – but not for live performances

*Hair salons and barbers

*Museums and galleries

*Outdoor playgrounds, outdoor gyms, funfairs, theme parks and adventure parks and activities

*Amusement arcades, outdoor skating rinks, indoor leisure centres or facilities

*Social clubs, model villages and indoor attractions at aquariums, zoos, safari parks, farms, wildlife centres, and any place where animals are exhibited to the public as an attraction, can reopen.

These are the places that are NOT being allowed to reopen yet:

*Nightclubs and casinos

*Bowling alleys, indoor skating rinks, and indoor play areas including softplay

*Spas, nail bars, beauty salons, massage, tattoo and piercing parlours
