We’re living through a time of crisis that few of us would ever have expected to see.
The people who keep our National Health Service – and our country – running really cannot be praised enough.
We are celebrating our key worker heroes, and we’ve asked you to highlight the brave individuals and teams you know who are working on the frontline.
Here’s a lineup of some Sunderland #healthheroes we should all applaud.
We’ve had an overwhelming response, so if we missed your nominee out, we’ll try to give them the shout out they deserve in the days to come.
Here’s a lineup of some Sunderland #healthheroes we should all applaud.
13. Lisa Ward, nurse
Mandy Mackel says: "I nominate my sister Lisa ward as my unsung #healthhero .who lives in South Hylton ,who is a nurse at Sunderland Royal Hospital. She is working right on the front line 12 hour shifts and up close with people dying daily of this awful virus .she is a true angel putting in all the extra shifts so she can care for and comfort patients and be by their sides at their last moments in life and holding their hands to comfort them so they are not alone, so proud to call her my sister" Photo: Submitted
Hellen Leonard says: "Nicol Gardener one of our besties who is from Southwick and is physio in charge of the Covid ward at north tees #healthcareheros" Photo: Submitted
Pen Kirkwood says: "My health hero is my sister who is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner at Pallion Family Practice in Sunderland. She goes above and beyond to help others and really makes a difference in the profession she is in. Not once has she complained during this awful time and although putting herself at risk and leaving her family she gets on with her job with the utmost professionalism and care towards all of her patients."
