These are 22 photos of Sunderland’s health heroes – as nominated by you
The people who keep our National Health Service – and our country – running really cannot be praised enough.
We are celebrating our key worker heroes, and we’ve asked you to highlight the brave individuals and teams you know who are working on the frontline.
Here’s a lineup of some Sunderland #healthheroes we should all applaud.
We’ve had an overwhelming response, so if we missed your nominee out, we’ll try to give them the shout out they deserve in the days to come.

1. Sharon Stothard, respiratory specialist nurse
Neil Stothard says Sharon "normally works in the chest clinic but now back on the wards during this emergency. We’re so proud of her but so worried for her and all the NHS staff risking it all to care for others that need them." Photo: Submitted

2. Rachel Carden, staff nurse
Allison Iley says: "This is my beautiful hard working selfless daughter Rachel Carden. She is a staff nurse on E58 coronavirus ward. Herself and her colleagues are absolute angels. We are so very proud of her unselfish and caring nature and work ethic ... brilliant all of them" Photo: Submitted

3. Daniel James
Sister Rebecca Oxnard says: "My brother, my hero and now one of our nation's health heroes. Gives 110% in everything he does, I didn’t think it was possible for him to go above and beyond anymore than he already does but again he has excelled himself! So proud of you" Photo: Submitted
