The earliest hairdressers and salons can reopen under lockdown road map
Hairdressers and barbers have not yet opened in 2021 in the North East and it is looking like they won’t be opening any time soon.
Many will have already attempted an at home haircut during the third lockdown – with novices wielding clippers and scissors in the hope the end product will look, at least a bit, better than before they started.
As Boris Johnson unveiled the roadmap out of lockdown, it doesn’t look like the public will be getting a professional haircut any time soon.
The Prime Minister has confirmed that tests will be used by the Government to assess the impact of opening certain areas of society back up after lockdown, indicating he'll be taking a "data not dates" approach to easing restrictions.
What are the rules now?
All non-essential retail and personal care venues which including hairdressers and nail salons are unable to open and have been closed since the start of the third lockdown on January 5.
So when could hairdressers reopen by?
Non-essential retail and personal care, including hairdressers and nail salons will open from April 12.
The reopening of hairdressers is part of step two, which will be implemented from April 12 at the earliest.
This step will begin at least five weeks after step one and will be dependant on the data.
Are delays in opening hairdressers likely?
Boris Johnson says the easing of lockdown will be based on four tests which includes a five-week gap between the government’s four step plan, so if the data causes a delay to one step then this will have a knock-on effect.
He said: “If analysis of the latest data against the four tests requires a delay then this and subsequent steps will also be delayed to maintain the five-week gap.”
How can I keep my hair looking good until they salons open?
Sunderland hairdresser Neville Ramsay has issued some top tips on how to keep your hair looking good in Lockdown and says his biggest piece of advice is to steer clear of permanent box dyes.
Neville added that if you’re cutting your hair to "leave the back because no one sees that.”
