Sunderland streets and beaches stay empty on sunny Easter weekend as residents heed Government's warning to stay home

It may be a sunny Easter weekend but Sunderland residents are staying at home as they follow the lockdown rules.

Hot Bank Holiday weekends are few and far between, but instead of flocking to the city’s parks and beaches to make the most of the good weather, people seem to be heeding the Government advice and remaining indoors.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock urged the public to stay at home over the Easter weekend and maintain social distancing measures, despite the good weather.

And with lockdown measures looking set to continue for the foreseeable future, these remarkably quiet scenes captured on Saturday, April 11, look set to become commonplace, as the UK unites to combat the spread of coronavirus.
