On Monday, March 23, the UK government put the country on lockdown – and told the public they must not leave their homes other than for a handful of ‘essential’ reasons.

These include travelling to and from work – where work is essential and cannot be done from home, shopping for necessary items, one form of exercise a day, to provide support for a vulnerable person or for a medical need.

But the public will still be able to purchase necessary goods to make vital home repairs while the country remains in quarantine.

So here’s how you can pick up essential repair items from some of the recognised DIY suppliers in and around the Sunderland area:

B&Q

Following the lockdown B&Q temporarily closed its stores, yet several have been reopened with strict social distancing rules.

The reopened stores include the outlet in Washington, while closed outlets in Sunderland and Durham are being reviewed.
