New wedding rules on guest limits, social distancing, table service and dancing after covid restrictions extended past June 21

Boris Johnson announced that the 30 person cap on wedding guests would be lifted on June 21, despite other restrictions remaining in place until July 19.

However he said this can only be the case if social distancing can be observed.

A bride who has had to postpone her wedding twice due to the pandemic asked Boris Johnson at the Downing Street press conference why can't testing be used to open up weddings in the same way they are for football matches.

She said: "It feels like weddings are bottom of the priority list"

The Prime Minister apologised and repeated that the 30 person limit would be lifted.

Mr Johnson said: "I am sorry for all the disappointment that's going to be caused by going a bit slower as we are today

“Weddings can go ahead with more than 30 people, we're lifting that restriction from june 21 providing social distancing is observed.

"I wish you every possible good fortune for your wedding. I am sorry for the disappointment which this will certainly bring for weddings, for many, many businesses but it's just a few weeks, that is I think, worth it to get those jabs in."

Venues themselves will therefore be responsible for deciding how many guests can attend a wedding while keeping to social distancing guidelines.

Sky News has reported that a number of wedding rules will remain in place including a ban on dancing, except for the first dance, and singing.

Guests will be told to sit on tables of up to six people and receptions will be table service only.

Dance floors are forbidden inside, while for private ceremonies outdoors, dancing will not be illegal, but will be strongly advised against.
