As the North East moved into Tier 2 in the new grading system launched by the Government there are new regulations residents are expected to stick though, although most of these have been in place since local lockdown was put in place last month.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the region had been graded as a ‘high’ risk area, in between the ‘very high' and ‘medium’ levels in his House of Commons speech yesterday, Monday, October 12.
The gradings bring with them a set of rules and currently all seven council areas across the North East – Sunderland, South Tyneside, County Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle, Northumberland and North Tyneside – fall under tier 2.

Under tier 2 all mixing between different households and support bubbles indoors is prohibited and the rule of six applies outdoors including public spaces and private gardens.
But if people do not stick to the rules, Northumbria Police has said people should report instances of anyone failing to obey the advice by filling in an online form.
The force, which has handed out more than 450 fines for coronavirus rule breakers since March, said: “We are grateful to the overwhelming majority of people who are sticking to the rules.
"Given demands already faced by us and our emergency service colleagues, by following the regulations everyone can help ensure vital resources are not being diverted to situations which could easily be avoided.”
To report something, residents are asked to fill out this form on the Northumbria Police website with the relevant information and contact details.
